Yarn Orgy
I was second in the store at Woolcott this morning for their 25% off birthday sale. I was not the first one out of the store. While I was there, they must have had 40 customers crammed into the ~750 sq ft store.
I staggered out about an hour later with everything I need for the Teddybear Sweater and the Mantinee Coat. I ordered some Classic Elite Wings in “Agean Sea” for the Classic Slant Cardigan, but they didn’t have the color card yet, so who knows what it will look like for real. I hope it’s a muted teal, not too bright. I also grabbed a bunch of little odds and ends. The longer I was in line, the more ended up in my basket. Including a set of Denise Interchangeable Circulars. I initially thought I’d give them away, but maybe I’ll play with them for a while first.
I also decided to make a sweater to match the Flore hat, so I need to get yarn for that. But first I have to figure out what the exact colors are. I have a request in to the kit maker, hopefully I hear from her soon. This is the first time I’m thinking of a project that I don’t have a pattern for. I think I’ll do something based roughly on the hat design, but we’ll see.

Color Issues
Last night I made 4 swatches for the Classic Slant Cardigan. One yarn was totally the wrong gauge, so I dismissed it. The other two yarns are the suggested Classic Elite Wings (swatched in Antique Rose, which is too close to the burgundy I’m doing Marcel’s in) or Karabella Aurora 8 (swatched in a bright dark purple which would be overload). Aurora is lovely to knit, but the swatches were less impressive once I washed them.
And with both yarns, no color calls out to me. The sample in the magazine is done in a light grey. I could do that, but I think it would lack contrast with my work wardrobe. For some reason, I can’t see myself making it in the brighter colors I’m usually drawn to. Wings comes in a muted teal color (Aegean Sea). Maybe they’ll have that in the store for me to look at tomorrow.
I also made the second layer on the Flore hat last night and joined it to the first layer. This is a very cool kit!

Let the knitting begin!
Just when I thought I was finishing up projects more come out to tempt me.
First is a sweater in the new Interweave for myself. I just have to pick the yarn. And Woolcott is having their annual sale this week, so I stopped by last night and got some candidates to swatch up tonight.
Next, I want to make my mom a sweater. She pointed out one she liked a while back, but I’ve seen a few others since then. So I printed out some photos and put together a little portfolio for her to browse through. I’m seeing her in a few weeks and I’ll make her decide.
Then, I became an aunt. My niece was born on July 28. So now I can give in to all those little girl knitting urges I’ve been having. So I’m making a couple of items in Debbie Bliss’s Baby Cashmerino book. And I’m trying to figure out what I want to make in Too Cute! And while I was picking up candidate yarn yesterday, I saw this kit and bought it immediately.
Have I gotten anything done?
Marcel’s back has a few inches.
Shawl Collar has a full sleeve and cuff.
Flore hat has a few rows.
Slant Cardigan has a swatch.
So much for reducing my active projects list. Just wait until I hit the yarn sale.
