Knitting for New Year’s

Monday, January 3rd, 2005

The reason I had been frantically knitting spontaneous projects was that I took a trip down to Tampa to see Barenaked Ladies for New Year’s Eve. I wanted to make something fun and sparkly to wear. At first, it was just going to be furry boas, but then the idea of a knitted bra was proposed. So I made Zaftig in black and a fur bikini top to wear over it. Decked out in black, I was ready for the New Year.

I also made a boa for my friend Emma and here we are mugging for the camera in them:

One hightlight of the night was that from our front row place on the floor, I tossed the furry over-bra up on stage. The drummer, Tyler, picked it up when he was out singing and put it on:

And to complete my holiday knitting, my friend Rachel was so enamored of my elf caps, that she hoped for one in green and white. Last night, after watching her hand bell choir perform, I gave it to her. She was quite pleased:

Now it’s back to my regularly scheduled knitting. I’m so excited to get back to projects that don’t have deadline. Knitting under the gun isn’t fun.

Taking Stock

I finished up a pile of silly fun things in the last week: Zaftig, two eyelash yarn boas, an eyelash bra (to go over Zaftig), and one last stocking cap. I’ll post pictures soon. Now I need to get back on track for the stuff that got shoved aside.

Squiggles Sweater: I was to the point where all I needed to do was add the squiggles and seam it up. But then I took it home and pinned it onto my mom. It’s a little too small. And while she swears she’ll lose some weight, I don’t want that to be what keeps her from wearing it. So I’m going to sit down with pattern and see if I can graft in some more rows. I think the hardest part will be doing kitchener on seed stitch.

Marcel’s Sweater: I need to redo the piece in the wrong gauge and finish it.

Sock Yarn Gloves: These still need fingers.

Blog overhaul: I’ll be moving all this to some new webspace soon. And I really need to update my “Active Projects” list.
