The Waiting is Over

The pattern: The Clapotis Cap

It’s so cute, here’s a few more photos:

In Lorna’s Laces Lion & Lamb (Mixed Berries colorway):

And inverted. Wearing it inside out makes a really cute rolled brim. The only problem is that the seam is very obvious down the back. If you want to wear is this way exclusively, you should sew the seam so the purl side is the right-side out.

Enjoy the pattern. Let me see your photos when you’re done!

Ha! That’s cool. I love the swirly shape. I tried to make a clapotis and failed, maybe this hat is more my speed.

  2. Mindy Says:

That is freakin’ adorable - you’re a genius!

  3. Amanda Says:

Awesome!!! I’m so excited that you did this. I ran out of yarn for my clapotis (big surprise there, right?) and so I ordered another 250 yd skein. I only need 50 yards more or so and I was trying to figure out what to do with the remainders of it. Then I stumble upon your pattern and voila! an answer to my quest.

  4. Liz Says:

Amy, This is just too neat. I’m working on the scarf now and this will be a great complement to it. Glad to hear it is not just me, that pattern takes more yarn than called for.

  5. Stephanie Says:

I love it! I’ll be sporting one next winter with my clap…

I love the hat idea. From looking at your photos of the hats not on the head, I wonder what a beret-style clapotis hat would be like. Clapotis would give it a nice spiral and floppy feel. I imagined a Clapotis hat would be more that style than the tight fit you’ve given it.

  12. lisa Says:

thank you so much for designing this hat! I just finished the scarf and was searching for a hat that would look nice with it because I have just enough left over yarn to make it! you have make my week!!!

Was roaming around and found your website - the clapotis hat that you have created is really fine. Have purchased Lorna’s Laces for 3 clapotis for Christmas presents and now it seems that there may be accompanying hat(s). Your errata and hints are so well thought out. Thank you for sharing your insights.

  16. Shelli Says:

This is lovely and I am so happy to find it! I have FINALLY decided to make clapotis and this will be the perfect finish to the outfit! And my husband thanks you too, since this cap requires I go through with that haircut I have been avoiding for several years :)

  17. Karan Says:

AWWWSOME! I am gonna try to make it, somehow!, in the round. Not sure if that can be done but no seam would be nice. Am I right?! And what the heck is up with that insurance company posting? Kinda strange.

Thanks for such a smart concept. May your clapotis beanie make a hit like a storm!

I gave them just a little tug and they went on for almost a minute exchanging kinetic energy. I am currently working on a design similar to the seal effect.

  24. Gladis Beedy Says:

I kind of disagree, but I do see your point.

  25. Beading Supplies Says:

For the children’s parties, the parent usually tells us what they are willing to spend per child and we then direct the children to the beads that fall within that range. If the party is held at the shoppe, there is a $20 instruction fee and attendance is limited to 10 children. If the party is held at a location of the parent’s choice, there is a $30 fee, and we prefer no more than 15.

  26. Beading Techniques Says:

I have a couple of friends who share my passion for beading and wire art. However, our skill levels are different so it’s hard to find something that we can do together and all have fun. Any suggestions? We recommend you choose projects that have a basic instruction list that can be embellished. Thankfully, this is true about many projects. You might choose to make a bracelet such as our wire-cuff bracelet that a beginner will enjoy. However, the more advanced artists can add or alter the project with additional techniques they know. Also, encourage the beginner to take risks. Most projects are not life threatening or even that costly if mistakes are made. It should be fun - you’re not being graded!
