[...] On Friday I decided what colors I wanted to do for my Dye-O-Rama Pal, and went to VW to pick up the necessary dyes. Then on Saturday I got all the equipment to make the warping board described over on Amy’s blog, Needles & Hooks. I like Scout’s board, but was looking for something with a little more flexibility, and the peg board idea is simply genious! [...]

Needing pegs? I found that 1/4 inch diameter 3.5 inch long hex bolts worked great! The length allows for all sorts of yarn to be wound around it. I use 1/4 inch nuts on the bolt, then put the bolt in the board and use another bolt in the back of the pegboard to keep it stable. I think the bolts were $0.15 each at Home Depot, the package of 100 nuts was 3 bucks and the washers I used were like 50 cents for a package of 12. Cheap, they stay with the board and they are sturdy...

This is awesome. I will try it. Re: the pegs: I'de definitely go with the dowel idea. Check the lumber yard or the Internet. I googled "wood dowel" and a bunch of sites came http://www.bearwood.com/ had some 1/8" diam. 36" long birch dowels at 21ç a piece.

Pick a dowel size that is slightly bigger than the hole and then work it into the hole, or whittle the end down with a sharp knife like you might a pencil and turn the dowel into the hole as far as necessary. Birch is a really hard wood so your dowel ought to last a while. Maybe coat it with saran wrap so it doesn't take one the dye.

Interesting. My husband remodeled the garage before the baby was born so we might have some peg board lying around. Only problem was that we found the dowels were too small and so not totally snug in the holes. Hrm. Thanks so much for posting all of this because it is super helpful.

Amy, You are So Dang Cool! I wanted to make a warping board, but, honestly, I am too cheap to fork out $25 (I want to spend it on yarn!). Like Rosa said, I will check out Michael's for wooden dowels.

Wow, thanks for sharing this. I've been coveting a warping board but don't really have the mad power tool skillz to pull it off... this has opened up the possibility for my own warping board for me :)
