The next generation of Red Sox fans…

So, I told you I have been knitting. Now you finally get to see it all.

First up, the outfit I made for my officemate. She’s 9 months pregnant and a big Red Sox fan. Of course, I had to knit her baby red socks. And then, because a baby needs more than socks, I knitted a Red Sox jersey.

The socks are the Heel and Toe socks from Zoe Mellor’s “50 Baby Bootees to Knit”. I altered the pattern slightly to get the red and white ribbing at the cuff to make them look like real Red Sox.

The sweater is yet another interpretation of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Baby Surprise Jacket. I knit the main body all in white save for a ridge on either side of the button placket. Then I crocheted the red around the collar and ends of the cuffs. I also did a crochet chain around the cuffs a few rows in. I looked for baseball buttons, but the ones i found just weren’t satisfying. The ones with red stitching were too large to fit the buttonholes. The ones that did fit had blue stitching and just didn’t look right.

And, while I’m clearly not holding to any stash-only resolutions (I would have never visited Threadbear if that was the case), this outfit was knit entirely from stash. The sock yarn was from this year’s ornaments that I didn’t actually make. The sweater yarn is some Cascade 220 Superwash that I had left over from a group baby blanket project a couple of years ago. I really do love that yarn.
